The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has formed teams to raid houses, which are using gas generators and will disconnect meters of these houses, Pakistan Today has learnt.
The step has been taken to save gas for industrial and power sectors, which are suffering badly in summers as well. According to the company’s estimates, around 40 percent gas is being consumed by domestic users, leaving other sectors in a problem. The teams of SNGPL are checking every area of the city so that gas could be saved. In the past, domestic consumers used gas for geysers and heaters during the winter and there was a shortage only in winters, but for the last two years, use of gas generators has witnessed a sharp increase in the domestic sector causing a huge shortfall of gas even in summers.
The company has no option but to curtail gas for power, CNG and industrial sectors, an official of the SNGPL said adding that looking at the sharp increase of using gas generators at home, the company decided to check houses, which are using gas generators.
Interestingly, many houses are using heavy generators and even run air conditioners on gas-fitted generators, which eventually create a gas shortage. SNGPL officials said that the company has evolved certain parameters for checking houses, which are using generators during load shedding. The company also raids houses on information and tip-offs of neighbours. The major parameter is a monthly bill of gas, which remains less than Rs 1,500 in summers.
“If a house has two or three stoves then its gas bill never increases than Rs 1,500. It is an easy way to judge consumption of the house and if the bill goes above this level, then we check the house,” an official of a raiding team said adding that it is very necessary that domestic users should remain careful in using generators or else there gas connections would be disconnected.
SNGPL teams have disconnected around 100 connections this season and it is triggering fear among consumers. The official said that according to law, domestic consumers could not use gas to generate electricity and it is clearly defined in the law, that if any domestic consumer tries to use gas other than kitchen use, then his connection could be closed.
“It is clearly written in the demand notice, which are signed by users that their connections could be closed if they are found using gas for other activities,” he said.
“Generators often create a lot of noise pollution and neighbours get irritated and inform the company about use of generators and we raid that house,” he said adding that the company is not very strict in cutting connections rather it gives maximum leverage to consumers. “We don’t disconnect gas of houses only on pretext of a high bill rather we also ask consumers about their point of view,” he added.
You focus only on houses whose gas bill is high Don't you know that people running generators on gas pay your employees just 1000 to 2000 per month to rig meters and keep the bill below Rs.1000 and run the entire household, including Acs, on gas. So you are getting a doble screwing. One, misuse of domestic gas supply and two, theft.
This is quite common.
The only guys who don't know are SNGPL
Of course they know. Where do you think the 2000 bribe per house goes?
i want to write that think about the people and decide
How much is the price
How much is the price of thisgas gen
new registation
we all street home suffering for load shedding and then noise pollution.
our connetion is just cutted ryt nw by Sngpl; 🙁 ; ; evn i brought gnrtr today and it wz running on petrol. They nvr heard a sngl word n cutoff my connection.
good decion bot zada gass chore ho re ha
when gysers and heater are aloowed why genrator is not allowed?there is a loadsheing and students has to preparation for exam what option with them specially at night and at noon Government and snglp are for service of people or they are for creatining more difficulties for people when gas consumed to run genrator is honestly paid why that person be insulted in society and punished with heavy imprisonment or fine and over charging
they should only allowed to catch gas theft and not the gentlemen who paid bills The government should allowed and fix some capacity of genrator which can be used by domestic consumers during load shedding otherwise patient and students will face more difficulties and most patient can expire due to non availability of this facility
i am agree with Ahamd shahbaz. well said.
yes fix some capacity of generator use.
Is it illegal to get gas connection from neighbours ?? I am waiting for installation of gas connection from last 7 Months. Ab neighbour sy gas li thi to SNGPL ny hata di our threat kia k meter utar lain gy. Where is a common moral and human right regarding this.
ACTUALLY GAS THEFT MEIN SNGPL K EMPLOYEES 100% INVOLVE HEN. JITNI BHI GAS CHORI HOTI HAI WO SUB GAS COMPANY K EMPLOYEES AUR OFFICERS KI MARZI SE HOTI HAI. GAS OFFICIALS SUB JANTAY HEN. AAJ AGAR CHAND GAS CHORON AUR GAS COMPANY K GAS CHOR OFFICERS AUR EMPLOYEES KO MUNH KALA KAR K GADHAY PAR BETHA KAR GHUMAYA JAE AUR MEDIA K THROUGH ALL OVER PAKISTAN BROADCAST KIA JAE TU KOI WAJA NAHI K GAS CHORI STOP HO JAE. SUB SE PEHLAY SNGPL RESPONSIBLE HAI GAS CHORI MEIN. GAS CHORI KO STOP KAREN GENERATORS PAR BAN KI ZAROORAT NAHI RAHE GI
OMG, why we Pakistani are careless.
I think Government should allow some capacity for Gas Generator. Otherwise give us 24 hours electricity . No one want noisy generator but what will we do without Electricity ?
