ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Monday supported the process of ongoing accountability in the country and stressed that it should be across the board.

In a statement, PBC Vice Chairman Syed Amjad Shah termed accountability “not only the soul of democracy” but also “vital and essential for strengthening the state institutions”.

“The selected accountability, therefor, being negation of standard operating procedures applicable during the process of accountability, could also immensely damage the normal functioning of different organs of the state,” the press release added.

Shah demanded that across the board accountability should be ensured while observing due process of law.

The government has filed a complaint at the SJC against alleged misconduct of two superior court judges, which includes Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who hold foreign properties either in their own names or through their spouses.

The move garnered criticism from the legal fraternity with the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) demanding President Dr Arif Alvi’s impeachment for filing the reference, while other bar associations also expressed solidarity with the top court judge.
