Three Jaish activists sent to jail over terror financing

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala on Friday convicted three leaders of a proscribed organisation, Jaish-e-Muhammad, in three separate cases pertaining to terrorism financing.

According to reports, the court charged the three individuals on the basis of evidence and investigations carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD)

The funds had been recovered from them which they had collected for the financing, said media reports.

According to the details, convict Iftikhar has been awarded 5 years imprisonment and a fine amounting to Rs 45,000 while second convict Muhammad Ajmal has been awarded 5 years imprisonment and Rs50,000 in fine. The third convict, Bilal, has been awarded 5 years in jail withRs40,000 fine.

All the convicts have been sent to the Gujranwala Central Prison.

According to the CTD spokesperson, these investigations and prosecutions were being followed to stop proscribed organisations from indulging in terror financing.

The spokesperson further added that banned outfits were warned to desist from terrorism financing, else they would be arrested and sent to prison.
