Pakistan invites Iran, Afghanistan to quadripartite moot on refugees

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is all set to host the Sixth Meeting of Quadripartite Steering Committee (Q-4) on implementing the solution strategy for Afghan refugees.

The meeting aims at implementing the solutions strategy for Afghan refugees to support voluntary repatriation, sustainable reintegration and to provide assistance to host communities of Pakistan and Iran.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Shehryar Khan Afridi has sent out invitations to Iran and Afghanistan to attend the Q-4 meeting being held on June 17, 2019, besides inviting Indrika Ratwatte, Director of the Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, UNHCR Geneva.

In separate invitation letters to Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Javad Zarif and Minister for Refugee and Repatriation, Afghanistan Syed Hussain Alemi Balkhi. Shehryar Afridi invited the two countries’ delegations for talks on the solution strategy.

It is recalled that the fifth meeting of the Quadripartite Steering Committee was chaired by Afghanistan, held in Istanbul, Turkey on December 1, 2017.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss developments in the implementation of the Solutions Strategy for Afghan Refugees (SSAR) to Support Voluntary Repatriation, Sustainable Reintegration and Assistance to Host communities, and to endorse the framework for SSAR for    2018-2019.

The Governments of Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) attended the meeting.
