MUMBAI: Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria on Friday assured that re-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi will play his key role in improving relations with Pakistan.

In a statement, the Indian high commissioner said that both countries need to take solid measures to overcome hostile relations.

He further announced that talks on the Kartarpur Corridor will be held on May 27.

The statement of the High Commission to Pakistan came after Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Lok Sabha elections 2019 with the maximum number of seats.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to unite the country on course to increase its majority on a mandate of business-friendly policies and a tough stance on national security.

Official data from the Election Commission showed Modi’s Hindu-nationalist BJP ahead in 300 of the 542 seats being contested, up from the 282 it won in 2014 and more than the 272 seats needed for a majority in the lower house of parliament.
