KARACHI: Karachi Police on late Thursday night arrested Amirul Ibad – the brother of former Sindh governor Ishratul Ibad – purportedly over a bounced cheque.
Reportedly, a local advocate, Tariq Niazi, had earlier filed a first information report (FIR) against Ibad pertaining to a bounced cheque worth Rs4 million.
Amir’s wife alleged that the police officials forcefully took her husband out of the house to arrest him. She claimed that the cheque on the basis of which her husband was arrested was a guaranteed stock payment cheque.
However, the police said that they are “questioning Ibad thus can’t say any more at this stage”.
If the allegation is proved against Ibad, he will be handed heavy sentence as accordingly to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2017, the imprisonment for cheques up to Rs10 million and over 10 million will be seven and 10 years respectively and fines will not be less than double of the amount mentioned in the cheque.
