Brick kiln owners stage protest

Brick kiln owners on Saturday staged a protest against the imposition of General Sales Tax (GST) on the brick industry. Holding placards and chanting anti-government slogans, they gathered in front of the National Press Club. The protestors said imposition of GST on the brick industry meant its economic murder.
They said the government should focus on providing incentives rather than imposing taxes on this sector. Protestors said that imposition of GST would lead to starvation of 5,000 labourers but the government was taking the matter lightly. They said the government has levied Rs 700 on 1000 bricks, which was unfair. Brick kiln owners said they would hold more protests.
