ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties on Wednesday staged a protest after Prime Minister Imran Khan left the house without answering the queries of the lawmakers during the on-going session of National Assembly.
Imran, who had arrived at the National Assembly after a long time, was supposed to answer to lawmakers’ questions as per his first Question-Answer session.
After his departure, the lawmakers hailing from the opposition benches resorted to a walkout and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders’ efforts to placate the MPs remained an exercise in futility.
Earlier, during the session, Federal Minister for Planning Khusro Bakhtiar criticised the opposition when the lawmakers asked him about dams. This resulted in a ruckus; however, the NA speaker barred the minister from speaking to cool things down.
Earlier, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business could not reach an agreement over the draft amendment making it mandatory for the prime minister to respond to queries and concerns by assembly members during the question-and-answer session.
Eventually, a sub-committee was formed by the chairman to evolve a consensus over the draft.
