Hours after Ruet-e-Halal Committee led by Mufti Muneeb announced Ramzan will start on Tuesday, Peshawar-based cleric Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai contest the claim, saying the holy month will start on Monday.

According to a report in a local media outlet, the decision was based on evidence gathered by the mosque from at least 22 people.

The moon of Ramzan was not sighted on Sunday, therefore the holy month would begin on May 7, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman announced after consulting all the four zonal offices of the Ruet-e-Halal Committee.

Talking to the media persons, Mufti Muneeb said that it has been confirmed that no evidence of moon sighting was received from Pakistan after gathering information from all the offices.

“It was a consensus decision of all the members of the committee,” he further added.
