LDA to relax rules to encourage construction of multi-storey buildings

LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to further relax the rules and regulations to encourage the construction of the multi-storey buildings.

Chairing the meeting of the governing body of LDA held here on Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar directed the committee constituted for the purpose to give final shape to the rules and regulations in this regard.

The meeting was told that the foundation stone of the tallest building of Pakistan will be laid in Johar Town. The building to be constructed on 44 kanals area will have 45 floors including three basements.

The Chief Minister directed the LDA to take measures to ensure fire-fighting equipment and trained staff, and all safety arrangement of the international standards. The chief minister expressed his anger over not completion of patchwork on some of roads of Lahore. LDA should focus on the condition of roads. He directed to complete the patchwork immediately.

The meeting approved the accord of more powers to LDA Vice-Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Imran to resolve administrative and other necessary affairs.

Usman Buzdar said the LDA vice chairman is being made more empowered so that the authority discharge daily affairs itself and it does not need visiting the chief minister for petty affairs. He said the LDA under the leadership of the vice chairman should take decisions and measure, within legal limits, to give more civic facilities to the citizens. Every possible step should be taken to provide relief to the people.

He said LDA should do work and give results, and my support is with the LDA. He said the construction of multi-storey buildings in Lahore is a welcome measure. The meeting gave its approval to the construction of a flyover to resolve the traffic problem at Shahqam Chowk. It also approved the extension of road from Defence Road to Labour Colony, Shahqam Chowk. These both projects will be started in the next financial year. The DG LDA briefed the meeting on the agenda.

Punjab Housing Minister Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, Chairman Planning and Development, Vice Chairman LDA Sheikh Muhammad Imran, secretary Local Government, Secretary Finance, Secretary Housing, Commissioner Lahore Division, members of LDA Governing Body, Members of Punjab Assembly Mukhtar Ahmed, Umer Aftab, Muhammad Atif, Saadia Sohial, and other MPAs attended the meeting.
