Maj Shabbir Sharif remembered on 76th birth anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Former Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif’s elder brother and the valiant war-hero Maj Shabbir Sharif Shaheed was remembered on his 76th birth anniversary on Sunday who was awarded with Nishan-e-Haider for defending the motherland against the enemy with the utmost bravery in 1971 war with India.

Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, who embraced martyrdom in the war against India, was born on April 28, 1943, in Kunjah, a district of India’s Gujrat.

Ex-COAS General Raheel Shareef’s brother and nephew of another war hero Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Major Shabbir Shareef joined Pakistan army in 1964. He got commissioned into the Frontier Force Regiment on 19 April 1964.

He also received Sitara-e-Jurrat for his gallantry display against the enemies in the Indo-Pak War of 1965.

Major Shabbir Sharif was the commander of a company of Six Frontier Force Regiment in the war of 1971.

Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed fought bravely against the enemy on December 06, 1971 and embraced martyrdom in bid to foil an Indian attack on the motherland.

At the time of martyrdom, Major Shabbir Shareef Shaheed was 28-year old. Government of Pakistan has awarded him with the highest gallantry award Nishan-e-Haider for his bravery.
