KARACHI: Aafia Movement Pakistan leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has said that her sister, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, wants to return home and a recent statement of Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal seems to be based on some misunderstandings.
In a statement on Wednesday, she said that according to her knowledge, Pakistani Counsel General Ayesha Farooqui had met Dr Aafia a few days back and Dr Aafia had told her that she wanted to return home. She had also requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to play his role so that she could come out of this jail, where she faces both physical and sexual abuse.
Dr Fowzia said that recently the government circles had shared a letter of Dr Aafia with media addressed to PM Imran in which she had called him ‘her hero’ and requested him to help in her repatriation as she was braving inhuman conditions in the US jail. She said that in these circumstances the statement of Dr Faisal seems to be based on misunderstandings and it is against realities.
She requested the prime minister to take notice of such statements and seek clarification from FO. She said whole Pakistani nation also awaits clarification of FO in this regard.
Dr Fowzia Siddiqui further said the Aafia family once again requests the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan to play an active role for early repatriation of Dr Aafia.
“We have no political agenda and we are raising voice because this is a purely humanitarian and human rights issue,” she concluded.
