ISLAMABAD: A list of 461 people who have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) was presented before the National Assembly on Monday.
At least three members of the National Assembly are also among the list of over 450 people.
MNAs Afzal Kakar, Asif Ali Zardari and Khwaja Saad Rafique are currently on the ECL, said Interior Minister Brigadier (r) Ijaz Ahmed Shah.
According to the minister, the names of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar were also among those placed on the no-fly list. “Some of the names were placed on the ECL on the recommendation of the federal cabinet.”
He informed the House that three parliamentarians – Bilawal Bhutto, Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar – were removed from the ECL.
The minister, however, told the NA that names of Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari were put on ECL on request of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). While Dawar and Wazir were added to the ECL for provocative and hate speeches.
It was reported on April 5 that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had recommended inclusion of more names on the Exit Control List in connection with an ongoing probe into different cases.
Sources informed that a letter had been dispatched to the Interior Ministry by the anti-corruption watchdog to include former finance minister Miftah Ismail on ECL following an ongoing investigation in LNG case.
