The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) and Jamia Masjid Qasim Ali Khan Peshawar could not agree on starting the holy month of Ramadan and hence celebrating Eid on the same day. A meeting of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Religious Affairs, chaired by Senator Saleh Shah, was called to review the differences between the CRHC and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Masjid Qasim Ali Khan Peshawar.
CRHC Chairman Mufti Munibur Rehman said the problem of the sighting of the moon on the same day existed only in Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda. The CRHC’s decision was accepted in all other parts of the country, he added. Shahabud Din of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan Peshawar said a committee should be formed to listen to the stance of the mosque’s cleric.
Minister for Religious Affairs Khurshid Shah stressed on formation of a committee comprising members of the standing committee, clerics from the CRHC and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to solve the problem. The proposal was accepted. On the other hand, Mufti Munibur Rehman made it clear that the PPP government could not run if it accepted the demand of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone and ignored all the other provinces.

  1. no. it should be celebrated when it is…. geographic borders of a nation state do not determine whn eid is… there is a very simple and easy way of doing it and it shud not be made into a political deiscussion with human discreation..

  2. Mufti Muneeb needs to be replaced, he has been in this position since 1999, and has remained controversial through out his tenure. Even now he is warning the PPP Govt against any compromises.

  3. here is a thought tell me if i am wrong ….. Eid is a religious event and not a national event. Islamic calender is based on the sighting of the moon. This is not to say that if there are clouds in Lahore and Kasur sights it then Lahore should not celebrated but it is a known fact that Saudis and Pakistan have a difference of one or two days.
A comprehensive scientific analysis should be done on the geographical location of Punjab and Pakhtunkhua and in light of this decide if there is infact a problem in this instead of blame shifting on each other. 🙂

  4. i always wounder how can only Peshawar people see Ramadan and eid moon while other people can’t, they must me having very advance telescope fitted in their eyes naturally so they can see *unseen* moon as well. 😛
