KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday summoned director general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi on April 16 in a case pertaining to a bogus call-up notice issued to a citizen by the NAB.

A two-member bench of the SHC headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh rejected the report by the NAB’s Investigation Officer (IO) Gul Afridi who appeared before the court.

SHC CJ remarked that the court can instruct the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to probe the matter.

The NAB prosecutor said that the NAB has no objection over the probe and the court could order any agency in this regard.

The NAB’s prosecutor told the bench that only DDO Coordination can issue summon or call-up notice to any accused.

He said that IO could not be made responsible for the issue. ‘The NAB has itself written to the DIG Police Hyderabad for investigation in this matter.

The IO said he has nothing to do with the fake WhatsApp message because he had already been transferred.

The counsel of the accused, Shamshad Ali, informed the bench that the NAB issued a fake call-up notice to his client.

The SHC CJ expressed annoyance over the NAB and asked if someone from the NAB was involved in issuance of the notice.
