KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while hearing the bail plea of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani.

A two-member bench of SHC heard the bail plea and ordered the NAB to submit its reply by April 24.

Durrani filed a petition seeking bail and challenging arrest in many corruption inquiries including alleged embezzlement of public funds and illegal appointments in government departments.

The NAB had arrested him from Islamabad in February this year.

Durrani pleaded that his arrest was illegal and in violation of the law. He said that the NAB in a call-up notice issued on February 18, summoned him to Islamabad on Feb 25. The chairman NAB issued his warrants on Feb 19 and he was arrested on Feb 20 in Islamabad.

The petitioner further said that the NAB is getting his remand again and again but has failed to give an explanation for it and neither presented any proof against him.

He requested to the court for his release on bail and abrogation of the NAB inquiry against him.

The court, later, adjourned the hearing till the April 24.
