Pakistan owes peace to its martyrs: Gen Bajwa

–COAS confers military awards on army personnel

 

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday conferred military awards to army personnel for acts of gallantry during operations in an investiture ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

“People ask us about ingredient of success in the war against terrorism, and we credit our martyrs and ghazis for their unflinching resolve and sacrifice to stamp out the menace of terrorism,” he said, while addressing the ceremony.

“We owe this peace and stability to the selfless devotion and sacrifices of these officers and soldiers who are our real heroes,” he said, adding that there is no noble cause than laying one’s life for the defence of the motherland.

“The sacrifices of our martyrs will not go to waste,” he added.

The army chief also lauded the brave families of the martyrs for the supreme sacrifices they rendered for the country. The COAS also hailed the courage and determination of the nation.

The COAS said nations that forget its martyrs are wiped out. “No sacrifice is greater than life to protect and defend our beloved motherland,” Gen Bajwa said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the families of the martyrs and the ghazis attended the ceremony. Thirty-five Pakistan Army officers were awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military), 36 officers/soldiers were awarded Tamgha-e-Bisalat and seven soldiers were awarded the United Nations (UN) medal. The medals of the martyrs were received by their family members.
