–PPP co-chairman asks NAB for more time to submit response in fake accounts case
The Islamabad Police have finalised a security plan at the accountability court where Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur are scheduled to appear in a money laundering case on Monday.
As many as 2,000 personnel of Islamabad police will be stationed along with the presence of 200 Punjab Rangers personnel for the hearing of money laundering case against the brother-sister duo.
DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed said that no unauthorised person will be allowed to enter the NAB court. No one will be allowed to take the law into their hands, he added.
On March 20, police and PPP party workers clashed outside the accountability court when Zardari and Bilawal reached to record their statements.
TWO WEEKS SOUGHT:
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and his father Asif Ali Zardari have reportedly written a letter to the NAB, requesting more time to submit their response in the fake bank accounts case.
According to reports, the accountability watchdog has received their letter seeking two weeks’ time to submit their reply to a questionnaire handed them during their appearance before the NAB last month.
The father-son duo requested the bureau to allow them until April 17 to submit their response. NAB has taken no decision in this regard yet, the reports added.
Last month, the NAB had handed over a questionnaire to the PPP leaders after they appeared before the bureau in graft cases.
Reports said the father-son duo were interrogated by two different teams of the bureau in separate rooms on March 20 for more than an hour and they were provided a questionnaire comprising 50 questions after their statements were recorded.
On March 28, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier granted pre-arrest interim bail to the former president and his sister Faryal Talpur in the fake bank accounts case.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, approved the bail for the PPP co-chairman and his sister against a surety of Rs1 million each.
The bench also issued a notice to the NAB to submit its response until April 10.
