New local bodies system to meet people’s expectations: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Saturday said that newly-proposed local bodies system in the province would meet the expectations of people as power would be shifted to grass-root level in its true spirit.

He was chairing a meeting here to review the proposed draft of local bodies system in Punjab.

Addressing the meeting, the CM said local representatives would be empowered as the proposed system would play a role to resolve problems of the public at their doorsteps.

There would be proper check and balance on affairs of these institutions, he said adding that such a system would be introduced which would help to minimise the gap between the government and the common man.

The CM said that financial independence would also be ensured in the local bodies system.

The local government secretary briefed about salient features of the proposed local bodies system.

Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat, the chief secretary, Spokesperson to CM Punjab Dr Shahbaz Gill and others attended the meeting.
