The protesting employees of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) on Thursday agreed to postpone their ongoing protest in front of the Governor’s House until July 25, after Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad assured them of resolving their issues within four days, otherwise ‘he would himself sit with the employees in their protest camp.’
A meeting in this regard was held among Sindh Governor, Home Minister Manzoor Wassan, PPP-Sindh Secretary General Taj Haider, PPP-Karachi Information Secretary Latif Mughal, Karachi Commissioner and DC South on Thursday.
During the two-and-half-hour meeting, leaders of the KESC-CBA union Haji Akhlaq Khan and Latif Mughal among others informed the governor about their problems in detail.
Mughal later told journalists that the Sindh governor had listened carefully to the grievances of the KESC employees.
Ebad said he was listening to their problems for the first time as he had not met the protesters before. He assured the CBA leaders that he will talk with the owners of the company which handles the KESC and if there is a need, he will personally go to Dubai to resolve the issues.
The governor assured that the issue will be resolved by July 25 and until then the KESC employees should withdraw their protest. The provincial home minister also assured the protesting KESC workers that their issues will be settled.
After the meeting, the Sindh governor held a separate meeting with the KESC administration, in which Taj Haider was also present.
Afterwards, Haider told Pakistan Today that the attitude of both sides during the meeting was positive and concrete result will come up within days as both sides have shown flexibility. He added that the attitude has become more positive and it can be said that the issues of KESC employees will be resolved until July 25 (Monday).
