ISLAMABAD: An accountability court (AC) Thursday extended a seven-day physical remand of three accused Aftab Memon, Abdul Jabbar and Muhammad Shabbir in fake accounts case.
The trial court directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to produce the accused person again on March 28, at the end of remand period.
During the day, NAB officials produced the three accused before AC-I Judge Muhammad Bashir and sought their further physical remand.
NAB officials pleaded before the court that it was required to recover further documents from the accused and the department needed their further physical remand.
They said that the department had conducted three-time medical examination of the accused and also produced their fitness certificate to the judge.
However, the defence lawyer opposed the prosecution request and argued that NAB had recovered all relevant record. He claimed that the NAB officials wanted his clients to give a statement that they transferred seven acres land on recommendation of a top political leader.
It may be mentioned that the NAB had arrested Secretary Land Utilization Department Sindh Board of Revenue Abtab Memond who was accused of allotting seven acres of land situated in Sector 40, Scheme-33 of Karachi’s Malir district from Sector 31 and 47, Scheme-33 of Karachi’s East district— in favor of M/S Pink Residency and others. The illegal regularisation cost the national treasury a loss of more than Rs800 million in terms of land value.
Previously, the court had granted the NAB a 13-day physical remand of the accused persons.
