LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Local Government Basharat Raja on Tuesday reviewed amendments into lease policy for the government land in Punjab.

During a meeting, senior member of the Board of Revenue said land over 200,000 acres were leased out. “The land is under possession of more than 75,000 families.”

It was told during the meeting that sizable income could be generated if the land possessors were given the ownership rights.

The land of Board of Revenue would be given on lease through action, it was proposed.

The government of Punjab will earn billions through the process, the meeting was told. “The land will be auctioned through Punjab’s privatization board,” BoR member said.

On March 5, Basharat Raja had said that the Punjab government was committed to empower the local bodies of province by enacting a new powerful law in coming days. He had said this while presiding over a meeting of the chairmen of district councils gathered at the Civil Secretariat from across the province.

The minister said his party was also determined to bring real change at grass root level in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

“The Punjab government is going to launch a state of the art programme of cleanliness and tree plantation in almost 1000 villages next month and I wish all local bodies’ heads come ahead to assist the government for its success as it will make our country clean and green”, he added.
