FAISALABAD: A man identified as Abdul Razzak was sentenced to death by a sessions court in Faisalabad on Tuesday over charges of raping and murdering an eight-year-old girl.
Razzak had abducted the minor girl in Faisalabad on July 2, 2018, and after subjecting her to rape, had murdered and dumped her body in Razabad area of the city.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Inam Elahi handed death sentence to him on three counts and also fined him Rs3.5 million.
He was arrested by the police during an attempt to flee the country through Lahore airport. The trial of the case lasted eight months. The lawyer representing the deceased child’s family told a local news outlet the convict was a habitual offender and had previously been accused of sexually assaulting another minor girl.
On Monday, a man raped a 10-year-old girl in Faisalabad. The 40-year-old took the 10-year-old girl to a vacant house and raped her in Rasoolpura area of Tehsil Chak Jhumra of Faisalabad. The rape victim girl was hospitalised in critical condition. The police arrested the accused and after registering a case against him have started an investigation.
