The Japanese government has completed on Wednesday the project of installing seven water filtration plants in Karachi worth $90,952 (Rs 7.7 million) in collaboration with the Al-Khidmat Foundation, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Pearl Continental Hotel, with the presence of the Consul General of Japan, Masaharu Sato.
The grant has been utilised for the distribution of purified water to residents, who suffer from water-borne diseases and lack the facility of clean drinking water.
Inviting international and local NGOs and businesspersons, Niamatullah Khan, the president of Al-Khidmat Foundation celebrated the philanthropic efforts of Japan and the Pakistani NGO.
Vowing to achieve its objective to improve sanitation and human health conditions in various communities, the Japanese government and the NGO had agreed and signed on this carefully selected project for seven sites throughout the city on July 12, 2010, and since then, both parties have endeavoured to set up water purification plants to diminish the cost of drinkable water and threat of water-borne diseases, and raise living standard in less privileged communities.
According to a handout, the Japanese government strongly believes that this support from the people of Japan in the essential field of development will strengthen the present amicable relationship between Japan and Pakistan.
At the ceremony, Masaharu Sato, the Consul General of Japan, said that the implementation of this project will surely be a driving force for spreading better health conditions in Karachi, and that it will be inspiring to see the residents enjoy better standards of living.
CLEAN DRINKING WATER PROJECT: With the approval of the Sindh chief minister, the Clean Drinking Water Project with its components PPMU and PPIU have been transferred from Chief Minister’s Secretariat to the Special Initiatives Department. However, project would remain under the control of the chief minister.

There are many kachi abadis which are facing many basic needs for the health and education, there is no water filter facility I have the space for water filter so please provide me the information and visit my area and provide the basic needs through your NGOs.
