LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun said the government was working on a mechanism to revive student unions across the province.
He was addressing a press conference alongside Punjab Chief Minister’s Spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill at the DGPR Office.
Humayun said a committee has been formed to analyse the mechanism for the revival of student unions. “The government would decide for the revival of students union after getting recommendations from the committee,” he added.
However, he said the government will not allow brutality in the name of student politics.
Humayun said that the Higher Education Department (HED) submitted answers to the questions raised on the assembly floor with the help of the available facts. Referring to the HEC report which absolved the former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif in a case pertaining to embezzlement in the government’s laptop scheme for students, he said, “It was presented out of context. It was clearly mentioned in the answers that NAB was investigating the laptop scam.”
“Irregularities can be investigated at the departmental level but complex corruption cases are difficult to investigate by the department. It is the duty of the investigating agencies to probe the matter. NAB has the authority to declare anyone culprit or innocent. NAB would determine whether the accusation is right or wrong,” he added.
He said that there was no penal provision to launch a crackdown against unregistered and unauthorised universities across the province. “Soon we will pass a law from the assembly in this regard,” he added.
Punjab CM’s Spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill, while replying to questions, said that the government provided best medical treatment to Nawaz Sharif. “Thousands of Pakistanis are getting treatment from PICs in Lahore and Rawalpindi. Nawaz Sharif should trust Pakistani doctors,” he said.
