LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that the agriculture sector is the backbone of the national economy.
The development of the agriculture sector on the permanent foundations and prosperity of farmers is our mission and measures are being taken on the priority basis for the promotion of the agriculture and development of small farmers, he said.
Talking to delegations at the CM Office, the chief minister said the promotion of the agriculture sector on the modern lines is drastically needed and special focus is being paid on the agriculture research and development for this purpose to improve living standards of the farmers.
He said progress of farmers is a priority and the country will progress when the farmers will progress. He said the PTI government will protect rights of farmers at every cost because the progress of the country is linked to the development of the agriculture sector. He said long term policy is being pursued for development of agriculture on permanent grounds and this policy will produce far-reaching results.
He said new programmes are being started to increase yield of crops and increase income of farmers. He said approval has been granted to provide certified cotton seed to farmers that will increase the yield of cotton. He said indiscriminate action will be taken against manufacturers of spurious pesticides and this menace will be brought to an end. He said special measures are being taken to increase yield of oilseed crops. All-out efforts will be made to protect rights of farmers, he concluded.
