ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan himself paid for the carpeting of road in front of his Bani Gala residence.

Informed sources said that the prime minister paid for the carpeting of road from Insaf Chowk till his residence from his own pocket. Sources said that the carpeting was done by Capital Development Authority (CDA) at a cost of Rs3 million. The prime minister has sent the cheque of Rs3 million to CDA.

The security institutions had recommended carpeting of the road so there are no hurdles in the emergency movement of vehicles from the area.

The incumbent government is fully committed to adopting austerity by avoiding unnecessary expenditures for saving the government money.

PM Imran, while kicking off the austerity drive from his own, announced to reside at the three-bed residence of the military secretary instead of the lavish PM House.

The prime minister said that none of the governors would reside in the governor house and ensure maximum austerity in the chief minister houses of the PTI-led provinces.

The resources saved by austerity measures are to be spent on the welfare of the masses.

The federal cabinet has also directed the ministries to continue austerity measures and cut expenditures by 10 per cent as checking the government expenditure is crucial to overcoming fiscal deficit.
