The probe commission on Saleem Shehzad’s killing on Tuesday held in-camera proceedings with Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in the chair and questioned two eminent journalists – Zafar Shaikh and Hamid Mir – who had earlier submitted their written statements with the commission. A source told Pakistan Today that the commission also sought answers from Sub-Inspector Shafiue, who had visited Sara-i-Alamgir to locate the body and vehicle of slain journalist Saleem Shehzad. The source said the commission had contacted prominent journalists Najam Sethi, Nasim Zehra and Tahir Ali, who were close friends of Saleem Shehzad, and questions would be raised against their written statements submitted with the commission about the incident. Another source said the commission also asked journalists to propose and list remedial measures to prevent any such unfortunate happening in the future for the safety of journalists. The source said Mir and Shaikh submitted their proposals in this regard. The national Highway Authority also submitted the record of CCTV footage with the commission. Hamza, brother-in-law of the slain journalist, his friend Faizan, Mandi Bahauddin DPO, the DSP and SHO concerned have also recorded their statements with the commission. And 48 items recovered from Shehzad’s car were also presented before the commission.
