District-level price control committees to be formed

LAHORE: Advisor to Chief Minister on Political Affairs Muhammad Akram Chaudhry chaired the first task force on price control meeting at the committee room of Chief Minister Office here on Friday where all deputy commissioners were directed to constitute price control committees within the next 15 days.

Minister for Agriculture Nauman Langrial, Minister for Food Sami Ullah Chaudhry, Secretary Industries Nadeem ur Rehman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Deputy Commissioner Kasur, Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala, Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura and other representatives from the concerned departments also attended the meeting.

Director General Industries Waseem Raza Jafari briefed the meeting about the price control mechanism and said that 18 essential items i.e. potato, tomato, onion, rice, sugar, meat, chicken etc. are monitored on daily basis. He said that price of potato has decreased whereas price of chicken and tomato has increased according to the monthly price trend.

While addressing the meeting, Advisor to Chief Minister Muhammad Akram Chaudhry said that it is the responsibility of the government to provide quality food items on low price. He asked the authorities concerned to make easy access to markets for common man. He also directed to constitute the committee to resolve the issues of these markets. He said that our price mechanism is not realistic hence there is a need to make a strategy to make our price mechanism realistic.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Agriculture Nauman Langrial directed all the deputy commissioners to constitute price control committees in their respective districts after consultation with the elected representatives of the districts within 15 days and check their performance on regular basis as well.

The existing price control mechanism was reviewed in the meeting at length and recommendations were also made to improve the existing price control regime in the province and at district level.
