FAISALABAD: United States (US) Lahore Consul General Colleen Crenwelge, during her visit to Faisalabad, commended the graduates of the US Department of State-funded English Access Microscholarship Program for their commitment to education.

More than 100 students between the ages of 13 and 20 participated in the two-year intensive English language and job skill enhancement programme. Free after-school classes and interactive learning activities provide youth with practical skills that help equip them for today’s job market.

Consul General Crenwelge announced Thursday that the US Department of State plans to expand the programme in Faisalabad to include 150 students over the next two years. “Access to education means access to better jobs and a brighter future, and the US is proud to support scholars throughout Pakistan,” she said.

The US Department of State supports English access programmes in 84 countries. In Pakistan, more than 2,500 students are participating in the access programmes and more than 16,000 have graduated from the programme since 2004.
