FM Qureshi deposits Saudi crown prince’s gifts in Toshakhana

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has deposited gifts worth millions of rupees received from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s maiden visit to Saudi Arabia, in the Toshakhana.

The prime minister had visited the Kingdom in September last year. The Saudi crown price is also due for a visit to Pakistan on February 16.

According to details, Qureshi had received a Rolex watch, a gold pen embedded with gems, a pair of gold cufflinks, a gold-chain rosary with precious gems, and a gold ring.

The total value of the gifts, assessed by an approved appraiser, amounts to Rs6.35 million. Individually, the watch is worth 4.85 million, the gold pen with gems Rs950,000, gold cufflinks worth Rs135,000, prayer beads worth Rs205,000 and a gold ring that costs Rs210,000.

An official statement says that the Toshakhana may retain the gifts and deposit the sale proceeds in the government treasury.

The crown prince is expected to stay at the Prime Minister’s House during his visit.

Earlier, diplomatic sources said that a trade deal worth $14 billion will be signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia during the visit. The trade deal would be the biggest foreign investment in the country’s history.

The premier is expected to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and contemporary global developments including Yemen war and the Afghan peace process.
