MNA disqualification: Noorul Hassan issued notice over Ijazul Haq’s petition

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday issued notices to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Noorul Hassan Tanvir, Secretary National Assembly and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over allegedly concealing his Iqama (work permit) in nomination papers.

Justice Amir Farooq while hearing a petition filed by former minister Ijazul Haq, son of former military dictator Ziaul Haq, regarding disqualification of the PML-N lawmaker.

Haq’s counsel told the court that validity of the work permit possessed by Noorul Hassan Tanvir was not expired at the time of filing nomination papers for 2018 general elections while details of his bank accounts in United Arab Emirates (UAE) was also not enclosed. The petition demanded to declare Tanvir as disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) over concealing his foreign assets.

Later, the IHC issued notices to the PML-N legislator and other parties and adjourned the hearing till March 27.

It is noteworthy to mention here that Ijazul Haq on Saturday sought disqualification of his political opponent who won the NA-169 Bahawalnagar seat in the July 2018 elections after bagging 91,763 votes against 72,461 votes of Haq.
