ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday reserved its decision on a petition filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in which it had sought time to present 19 Indian witnesses in the Mumbai attack case.

The Mumbai attacks were a group of terror attacks that took place in the Indian capital in November 2008. Terrorists carried out a series of 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks that lasted four days. The attacks, which drew global condemnation, began on 26 November and lasted until 29 November 2008. At least 174 people died, including 9 attackers, and more than 300 were wounded.

A divisional bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani reserved its verdict after recording statements of FIA officials.

FIA officials told the court that 19 witnesses had been located in connection with the case and needed to be presented before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) hearing the Mumbai attack case.

They elaborated that ATC had earlier rejected the FIA’s request to produce these witnesses before the court.

Earlier, the IHC had turned down FIA’s request to halt Mumbai attack case proceedings in ATC. The case has been in the court since 2009 and no charges have yet been framed.
