Vegetables prices continued their upward trend like last week at the city’s 13 Sunday Bazaars, however better weather attracted more customers to Sunday Bazaars and vendors looked satisfied with sales. The market price of 10 out of 26 vegetables including new potato, tomato, onion, peas and spinach was higher than last week while the price of ginger, cucumber, lemon and lady finger came down with other vegetables selling at the same price.
Unlike vegetables, fruit prices generally were lower including those for certain kinds of mangoes, apricot and plum while the prices of five fruits increased. A CDGL handout stated that City District Government monitoring teams checked all Sunday bazaars and fined shopkeepers upto Rs 7000 for overcharging or selling selling substandard items while two stalls were cancelled in Gulshan Ravi Sunday bazaar.
Beef was sold at Rs 150 per kg, mutton at Rs 200 while the price of chicken fell from last week and chicken sold at Rs 194 per kg. Sunday Bazaar customers showed anger over the continuous negligence of CDGL on overcharging and the sale of substandard fruits and vegetables. Akram Khan, a customer said, “The problems are the same every week and reported in media but no action is taken by a slack local administration.”
