KARACHI: Government doctors went on strike across Sindh on Monday over the non-payment of salaries, allowances, and health insurance.
Patients arriving at government hospitals are facing trouble as all out-patient departments (OPDs) were closed. Hundreds of patients were seen crowded outside the hospitals due to the closure of wards at Jinnah, Civil, Lyari General, and all district-level hospitals.
Doctors said that the provincial government was given one-week time to consider their demands pertaining to increments in salaries, allowances and health insurance, however, no effort had been made by the Sindh authorities so far.
Doctors Action Committee announced that OPDs will remain closed in all hospitals for the next three days and the strike will be held in emergency and other wards as well if demands were not fulfilled.
DAC Secretary General Dr Manzoor Ali said that the protestors were raising voice against injustice being made by Sindh health department and claimed that the authorities have made no progress in the resolution of doctors’ issues despite the directives of the Supreme Court (SC).
