Realistic approach adopted by the government towards the tribal region has helped to combat violence and militancy, Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said while addressing the installation ceremony of Kyber Union of Journalists at the Governor House,Peshwar, on Saturday.
“Successive governments had failed in resolving the economic needs of tribal region,” she remarked. Beside others Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masud Kausar, Information and Culture minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain and KhUJ President Malik Arshad Aziz also addressed the ceremony.
Firdous Ashiq said the media had also failed to reflect the true image of FATA and the rest of the world was unaware of the ground realities. She expressed satisfaction over the media’s role in the ongoing war on terror, saying “such positive role on the part of media has not only lead to exposure of the militants but even it has mobilised the common men.”
Consultations were being held with the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists to resolve the problems of the journalists, she said, adding that the implementation of the 7th wage award was also a challenge.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain welcomed Firdous Ashiq to Peshawar and informed her about the steps taken for promotion of media and welfare of journalists in the province.
