Police reforms govt’s top agenda: Buzdar

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said on Thursday that carrying out reforms in the police system was the top-most priority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

“It is imperative to introduce comprehensive reforms in the police system to mould it according to the aspirations of the people. The public trust on the police will be restored through sustained reforms,” he said.

The chief minister said that reforming the police, as well as other sectors, were the need of the hour and the Punjab government had already constituted a high-level committee for the purpose. “The committee will soon present its recommendations to the government.”

Buzdar said the main purpose of reforms in police and other government sectors was to provide prompt relief and justice to the people. He reiterated that reformation of the police system was must for supremacy of law, promotion of merit and transparency as well as the elimination of corruption.

He said that provision of justice and ensuring the rule of law was the responsibility of the state as a judicious social order was imperative for accelerated socio-economic development. “We will go to every extent to ensure the implementation of law.”

The chief minister said that PTI government was pursuing a vibrant policy to establish a society having its foundations on the norms of justice.
