Community policing is not a new concept, however, in Islamabad it was introduced only a few months back.
Community policing is a synergistic approach to meeting the safety and security needs of the community through their active involvement. The main aim behind initiating such a concept is to build a friendly relationship between police as a service provider and community as a client.
It also calls for an active role from the community in identification of criminal elements. Police in Pakistan has never enjoyed a good reputation among the population, which is mainly attributed to their feudalistic approach. However, now after the introduction of this new concept, it is highly likely that the traditional role of police will change and improvements will be witnessed in citizen-police relationship.
