KARACHI: Broken patches of main University Road and its overflowing gutters are perturbing citizens but the government has turned a blind eye to their sufferings.

Many sections of University Road, especially opposite Nadir Edulgee Dinshaw (NED) University and between Civic Center and Old Sabzi Mandi on down lane are broken and potholed, creating severe problems for commuters.

“They also result in traffic jams and road accidents but Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and DMC East are not paying attention to these problems,” said Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) East chapter amir and former MPA Muhammad Younus Barai.

He said that traffic between New Town and Jail Chowrangi Flyover was severely affected on Wednesday due to overflowing gutter water which shows the height of negligence of the civic agencies.

“University Road is an important artery of the megacity and neglecting it does not leave a positive image regarding the style of governance in the province,” he added.

Barai demanded immediate repair of the broken sections of the University Road and urgent repair of its chocked gutter system to facilitate the citizens. He asked for better facilities of commuters by approving new bus routes for this important road, which houses the major universities of not only the megacity but the whole country.
