FAISALABAD: Lawyers on Tuesday unlocked the premises of district courts, finally ending their protest seeking a Lahore High Court (LHC) bench in the city for the past 72 days.
A general house meeting of the District Bar Association (DBA) was held with its newly-elected president Chaudhry Naveed Mukhtar Ghumman in the chair.
After the meeting, the DBA president told APP that the meeting discussed various matters, including lawyers’ protest and lockout of courts.
The meeting was told that the government authorities had promised to fulfill lawyers’ demand for the LHC bench.
“Therefore, the DBA has decided to end the protest and let the district courts function in the best interest of the litigants,” Ghumman said.
Meanwhile, DBA Sargodha continued its strike for the establishment of an LHC divisional bench.
DBA Sargodha President Muhammad Wasif Bhatti told APP that a meeting was also held with Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat, in which Minister for Labour Ansar Majeed Niazi and representatives of the lawyers’ community participated.
He said that Basharat assured the delegation their demands would be met and a summary for the establishment of an LHC bench in Sargodha would soon be submitted.
To discuss the matter, the DBA president has also called a general house meeting on Thursday.
