PESHAWAR: The police on Sunday arrested two alleged target killers involved in the murder of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) peace committee chief Malik Mir Alam Afridi.

Police said that a suspected motorcycle carrying two people in Hayatabad area of Peshawar was signalled to stop but the motorcyclists fled from the scene, after which they were chased and held in the neighbourhood.

The detainees identified as Sajid and Kamran, in the preliminary investigation, admitted to killing Malik Mir Alam Afridi near Achini Khor the other day.

The police impounded the bike and after registering a case against the detainees started further investigation.

Yesterday, Malik Mir Alam Afridi had been fatally shot by two motorcycle riders near the Hayatabad Toll Plaza. Afridi was rushed to the Hayatabad Medical Complex where he was declared dead on arrival. Afridi was a known symbol of resistance to militancy in the area of Bara tehsil. This was the second attempt on his life as he had previously survived a gun attack near Arbab Road in Peshawar in 2014.
