Although the coalition partners in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government have agreed to restore the commissionerate system in the province, they are likely to take all the stakeholders into confidence before the final decision.
“There is no hurry regarding restoration of the commissionerate system,” said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain when asked by Pakistan Today. He reminded that soon after coming into power, the leadership of both the coalition partners had proposed the same move in the wake of upsurge in terrorism and militancy. He said the delay so far had been because of legal and constitutional issues.
Hussain said the provincial government would take all the stakeholders into confidence soon after the return of Chief Minister Amir Hader Hoti from abroad. “Although there is no hurdle in the restoration of the commissionerate system, yet the provincial government would hold consultations and discussions on the issue.
There are a number of people who might get affected with the change and the government to keep them in the loop over this matter”, he observed. Hussain added that certain positive aspects of the existing local bodies system might be incorporated into the old system.
