Parliamentary Committee defers judges’ appointment

The Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointment on Friday deferred its decision until July 21 on the recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan regarding appointment of six Additional Judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The body, which met here with Leader of the House in Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari in the chair, sought more information regarding Judicial Commission’s recommended names for additional judges of the PHC. On July 6, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan had met under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
It recommended the appointment of six Additional Judges for the Peshawar High Court. The commission had recommended the names of Khalid Mahmood, Fazal Haq Abbasi, Nasir Hussain Khan, Waqar Ahmed Shah, Qaiser Rasheed and Malik Azmatullah to be appointed as additional judges of the PHC. The Judicial Commission sent its recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee to consider them.
Talking to media after the meeting, Nayyar Hussain Bokhari said that the committee had deferred the cases recommended by judicial commission till next meeting as the parliamentary body had sought more information about proposed names of judges.
