KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh on Thursday remarked that the investigation officers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) are not qualified for conducting investigations.

He gave these remarks while hearing the petition pertaining to corruption in the education department, Municipal Corporation and other departments on Thursday.

During the course of the hearing, the NAB investigation officer was informed that the money allocated by the court for the development projects of Garhi Yasin had gone away in corruption. He further informed the court that interrogation was being carried out against 32 contractors and 17 government officers.

Upon this, the SHC CJ, while expressing displeasure over NAB’s performance, remarked, “Every city of Sindh is in the worse condition and roads, streets of every city of the province are in bad condition. Gutters are overflowing and there is no clean drinking water.”

CJ further observed that the work of the corrupt is running and the work of NAB is also running. “NAB officials do work while sitting in offices, they do not even go at the place of the incident and the investigation officers of NAB are not capable of holding investigations,” he said.

The investigation officer informed the court that one suspect has filed a plea bargain on the matter of corruption in the education department. Upon this, the SHC CJ observed, “Rs 5,000 has been taken back from the person who did corruption of millions.”

“Most of the irregularity is in NAB Sukkur where inquiries are conducted for decades and several investigation officers are changed but still nothing is found,” CJ observed.

The SHC CJ, while seeking complete details of pending inquiries in NAB Sukkur, remarked, “NAB should complete inquiry soon upon the matter of corruption in the native village of Agha Siraj Durrani.”

Court also ordered NAB to present a report on March 5 after completing the investigation regarding corruption in different departments.
