LARKANA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has excused to personally attend the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto at Garhi Khuda Bukhsh despite invitation from former President and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
On behalf of Fazl, a five-member delegation, including Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Siraj Ahmed Khan, Abdul Razzaq and Saud Afzal will attend the rally.
Earlier on Thursday, Asif Ali Zardari invited Fazl to attend the rally, commemorating the death anniversary of the former prime minister at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.
In a telephonic conversation, the two discussed the overall political situation in the country and the PDM’s anti-government campaign, the second phase of which was launched on Wednesday with a rally in Mardan.
Fazl, who had announced a PDM long march towards Islamabad in February, hinted at an “extended sit-in” in the federal capital, saying: “We will not rest until this government is removed from power. We have to purge Pakistan of these people.”
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz is also to attend the December 27 rally.
In a meeting held on Thursday to finalise the arrangements for the rally, the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Larkana’s divisional and district administration had directed to ensure foolproof security for the public event.
