ANKARA: Turkey on Thursday honoured Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Niazi with “Legion of Merit” for making contributions to friendly relations between the two nations and their armed forces, Radio Pakistan reported.

The medal was awarded by Turkish naval chief Adnan Özbal at an “impressive ceremony” in capital Ankara.
Admiral Niazi is currently on an official trip to Turkey. Upon arrival, he was presented a guard of honour at Turkey Naval Forces Headquarters, the Pakistan Navy said through its Twitter account.
The naval chief met with Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar and army chief Gen Yasar Guler at General Staff Headquarters in Ankara. He also called on Defence Industries president Ismail Demir at his office.
During these meetings, “matters related to regional security, bilateral collab [and] mutual interest were discussed,” the navy said. “The dignitaries commended contributions of each other in maintaining peace [and] stability in [the] region.”
Earlier, Admiral Niazi laid a floral wreath at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Turkey founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and signed the honour book.
