Sadiq, three others get extension in bails in ‘violent protest’ case

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Monday extended the interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ayaz Sadiq and three other party leaders in a 2018 case on charges of resorting to violent protests when deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif returned from London to serve his sentence.

The other suspects include former Punjab minister Khwaja Salman Rafique, former MPA Malik Waheed and PML-N activist Rana Ehsan.

Sadiq and Rafique appeared before the court and marked their attendance. Presiding Judge Ijaz Ahmad Buttar extended the bails till December 18 and directed the investigation officer in the case to submit a complete record of the case during the next hearing.

The North Cantonment police had registered the first information report under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and some provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Sharif along with his daughter and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had landed at the Allama Iqbal Airport, Lahore on July 13, 2018, from where they were arrested and shifted to jail to serve sentences in multiple National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.
