Former ISPR chief among six promoted to lieutenant general rank

RAWALPINDI: Six major generals, including former Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general Asif Ghafoor, have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, the military’s media wing announced on Wednesday.

In a tweet, the ISPR said those promoted include Maj Gen Akhtar Nawaz, Maj Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, Maj Gen Salman Fayyaz Ghani, Maj Gen Sarfraz Ali and Maj Gen Muhammad Ali.

The ISPR press release also announced a few other new postings: Lt Gen Ghafoor has been posted as Inspector-General Communication and Information Technology, Lt Gen Muhammad Abdul Aziz has been appointed to commandeer IV Corps (Lahore), Lt Gen Muhammad Waseem Ashraf will head II Corps (Multan), Lt Gen Hayat has been posted as Military Secretary, Lt Gen Khalid Zia will lead XXXI Corps (Bahawalpur), Lt Gen Sarfraz will be the new southern command and Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum is appointed V Corps (Karachi).

Other appointments include Lt Gen Majid Ehsan as Inspector-General Arms and Lt Gen Syed Muhammad Adnan as Inspector-General Training and Evaluation.
