8 killed in Sheikhupura clash over children’s fight

SHEIKHUPURA: Eight people, including two women, were gunned down in Sheikhupura’s Kharianwala on Saturday. Three others were also injured.

According to the police, members of the Sooli Jutt clan opened fire at eight people from the Khadim Jutt clan while they were busy harvesting wheat in a field.

The deceased were identified as Ali Shan, Yasin Bibi, Khadim, Bashiran Bibi, Waheed, Tufail, Akbar and Ali. Once news of their killings spread, members of the Khadim Jutt clan torched the homes of the other clan.

Both groups had reportedly fought a day earlier too when a dispute broke out among their children. Multiple people were wounded after being stabbed.

The police have begun an investigation into the matter and say arrests will be made soon. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident. He has ordered the Sheikhupura regional police officer to arrest the offenders and submit a report on the matter.

“Those who took the law into their own hands will be taken to task,” the CM was quoted as saying. “The family of the deceased will be given justice at all costs.”
