PR retrieved 293.56 acres encroached land in 11 months: report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways, during its anti-encroachment operations, has retrieved 293.56 acres state-owned land across the country during the past 11 months, APP reported.

“The encroachment operation has been launched with the assistance of railway police and district administrations,” an official told APP.

Giving a division-wise breakup, he said railway had retrieved 143.45 acres from Punjab, 80.54 acres form Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 59.8 acres from Sindh and 9.77 acres from Balochistan.

The official said that PR owns 167,690 acres of land across the country of which 90,326-acre is in Punjab, 39,428-acre in Sindh, 28,228-acre in Balochistan and 9,708-acre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the Geographic Information System (GIS) survey had also been conducted under a project regarding the computerization of railway land records, in which all the encroachments and leases had been recorded in the Pakistan Railways Land Management Information System (PRLMS) software.

The official said the database was under verification and being compiled.

To a question, he said P-Way labor was not being allowed to work on the Khost-Sibi section since January 2018 by FC Balochistan due to non-provision of security.

He said the contractor, National Logistics Cell (NLC), is facing difficulties due to the absence of infrastructural facilities and security.

The official said the track rehabilitation work which was being carried out by division was also suspended due to security reasons and will now take six months subject to the law and order situation in the province.

He said, in this regard, a meeting had been held by the PR Divisional Superintendent and Superintendent Railways Police in Quetta with the provincial chief secretary.

The official said the chief secretary assured that Pakistan Railways of complete protection through Balochistan Levies.

To another question, he said Pakistan Railways has finalized inquiries of 44 passenger train accidents while 22 accidents related to goods trains were being dealt with by the respective divisions in accordance with rules of the department.
